Faisal Kapadia: The Voice Behind Strings and the Heartbeat of Pakistani Pop Rock

Faisal Kapadia is more than just a vocalist—he is a symbol of Pakistan’s musical evolution. Born on June 29, 1971, he co-founded the band Strings in 1988 with Bilal Maqsood while studying at the Karachi University. What began as a college band quickly transformed into one of the most iconic and influential music groups in South Asia.

Strings’ debut album in 1990 made waves, but it was their second innings in 2000 with the album Duur that established them as musical legends. Songs like “Duur,” “Anjaane,” “Sar Kiye Yeh Pahar,” and “Najane Kyun” not only topped local charts but also gained massive popularity across India and internationally. Their music, which blends western pop-rock with eastern lyrical sensibilities, earned them a loyal fan base.

One of Faisal’s standout qualities is his distinct voice—mellow yet powerful, emotional yet restrained. Over the years, he and Bilal worked on socially conscious music like “Mein Toh Dekhoonga”, and the duo never shied away from voicing messages of peace and unity.

Along with Bilal, he led Coke Studio Pakistan as its executive producer for four remarkable seasons (Season 7 to 10). When Strings officially disbanded in 2021 after 33 years, many believed it marked the end of an era. However, Faisal Kapadia surprised fans by launching a solo career. In 2022, he collaborated with Young Stunners on the track “Phir Milenge”, which instantly went viral and proved his adaptability to the new wave of Pakistani music. It was a bridge between two generations—his nostalgic voice blending seamlessly with the energy of Gen Z artists.

Faisal Kapadia remains a respected mentor, performer, and visionary.
