Bohemia – The Pioneer of Punjabi Rap and Desi Hip-Hop

Bohemia, whose real name is Roger David, is widely regarded as the founding father of Punjabi rap music and one of the most influential figures in the South Asian music scene. Born on October 15, 1979, in Karachi, Pakistan, Bohemia later moved to the United States, where he grew up in California. He fused the cultural essence of Punjabi with the raw energy of American hip-hop, creating a new sub-genre that came to be known as Desi Hip-Hop.

Bohemia made waves with his debut album, Vich Pardesan De (2002), which was one of the first Punjabi rap albums ever released. But it was his second album, Pesa Nasha Pyar (2006) that propelled him to international fame. Despite his fame, Bohemia has remained true to his art form, often choosing independent releases over commercial record labels to maintain creative control.

Beyond music, Bohemia has inspired a new generation of Desi rappers including artists like Imran Khan, Honey Singh, and Emiway Bantai. His label, Kali Denali Music, continues to promote upcoming talent in the underground hip-hop scene.
